2024 Andrew Goodman National Civic Leadership Training Summit

Watch NCLTS Recap

As momentum builds toward November’s 2024 General Election, we are inspired by the spirit of 1964’s Freedom Summer. The Andrew Goodman Foundation was established in memory of Andrew Goodman, a civil rights worker who was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan, alongside activists James Earl Chaney and Michael Schwerner, for registering Black Americans to vote in Mississippi’s Freedom Summer. We believe that the movement of young people that propelled Freedom Summer did not end in 1964, but continues on today and will tomorrow through the spirit of young people who persistently fight for equitable voting rights.

On July 31 and August 1, The Andrew Goodman Foundation hosted its ninth Andrew Goodman National Civic Leadership Training Summit, themed ’64-’24: The 60th Anniversary of Freedom Summer. During this virtual event, Andrew Goodman Ambassadors and young people from across the country gathered to hear inspiring panels and participate in training sessions, just as young organizers did ahead of Freedom Summer. They left the event prepared to lead the movement of young voters to the 2024 General Election and beyond.

Young people have always been and will always be the changemakers who push us toward a just and inclusive democracy. This summer, young people across the nation hearkened back to Freedom Summer 1964 as they created their own movement. Commemorating the 60th Anniversary of Freedom Summer is not merely an exercise in nostalgia; it is a call to action. It reminds us of the enduring importance of advocating for equality, justice, and human dignity. By honoring the legacy of Freedom Summer, we reaffirm our commitment to building a more inclusive and equitable society.
