Expanding the Ballot: Providing Language Assistance to New Americans

Geographical Area

Franklin County, Ohio

Problem

Currently, Franklin County, Ohio has limited formal mechanisms in place to provide on-site language assistance on Election Day.

Solution

Expanding the Ballot seeks to make it easier for New Americans to vote by breaking down the language barrier through the utilization of multilingual poll workers. In doing so, the project aims to increase turnout among New Americans by 10% by 2022 and spread to Cuyahoga and Hamilton counties. For guidance on how to recruit multilingual poll workers, read Expanding the Ballot: Providing Language Assistance to Non-English Proficient Voters Through Multilingual Poll Workers.
