Miami Dade College to Host National Voter Registration Day, Sept. 24

This press release was originally published on MDC News on September 18, 2019.

MIAMI, Sept. 18, 2019 – On National Voter Registration Day (NVRD), Tuesday, Sept. 24Miami Dade College’s (MDC) eight campuses will once again host voter registration events to encourage students and the community to sign up to vote with entertainment, games and refreshments. Events are free and open to the public.

Every year, millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they haven’t updated their registration, aren’t sure how to register, or missed an important registration deadline. Established in 2012, NVRD is a day of civic unity and an opportunity to set aside differences and celebrate democracy, as well as the rights and opportunities shared by all Americans.

MDC has participated in NVRD every year since its inception. In recognition of the college’s sustained commitment to non-partisan voter engagement, MDC earned the Voter Friendly Campus designation through Campus Vote Project and NASPA in 2018.

An early voting location in the last midterm elections, MDC has been confirmed to host two early voting sites during the 2020 presidential primary elections. In 2018, the College held early voting sites at North and Kendall campuses with a highly successful turnout. Thanks to the hard work of students, faculty and staff, MDC had the most on-site early votes cast among higher education institutions in Florida.

Partners for this year’s event include Engage Miami, the Campus Election Engagement Project (CEEP), the Andrew Goodman Foundation (AGF), the League of Women Voters (LWV), UnivisionCatholic Legal Servicesthe Florida Immigrant Coalition, and Campus Vote Project (CVP).
