Do I need voter ID?
All Wisconsin voters must show ID.
Are student voter IDs accepted?
Yes, if the ID displays your signature, the date the card was issued, and an expiration date within two years of the issue date. In addition, your student voter ID must be accompanied by a separate document that proves enrollment, such as a tuition bill, class schedule, or verification letter issued by your school. Proof of enrollment is only needed if the student ID is expired.
NOTE: Your University of Wisconsin-Madison Wiscard is not valid as voter ID. Bring your Wiscard to the Wiscard Office at Union South and request a free voter-compliant ID card. Visit https://vote.wisc.edu/ for more information. Registered Students may access an electronic version of their voter ID card via voterid.wisc.edu. This card is not valid until it has your signature. You can add a digital signature that matches your signature or print and sign this card.
Are IDs issued by other states accepted?
No.
Does the ID need to display my current registration address?
No. Your ID does not need to display your current registration address.
Acceptable IDs Include:
- Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License or Nondriver ID
- Valid US Passport or Military ID
- Valid student voter ID accompanied by proof of enrollment (see above).
This is only applicable to voters registered in Wisconsin. If you plan to vote in a different state, scroll down to check your state’s voter ID requirements.
