Do I need voter ID?
All Iowa voters must show ID. If you register to vote by mail, and if you do not already have an Iowa Driver’s License or ID card, you will automatically receive a free Iowa Voter ID card.
Are student IDs accepted?
No.
Are IDs issued by other states accepted?
No.
Does the ID need to display my current registration address?
No. Your ID does not need to display your current registration address.
Acceptable IDs Include:
- Iowa Driver’s License or Non-driver ID
- US Passport or Military ID
- Iowa Voter ID card
Same-Day Registration
You may register and vote on election day. To register and vote on the same day, you must provide proof of your identity and proof of residency.
- Proof of your identity. If you do not have an Iowa driver’s license, you may use any valid photo ID, like a passport, student ID, or out-of-state license.
- Proof of your residency. If your photo ID does not contain your registration address, you may use another document to prove where you live if it contains your name and current address. This includes a utility bill, a lease, or document from your college listing your residential address.
