Do I need voter ID?
First-time voters may need to show ID. A valid ID is any current and valid photo identification, like a driver’s license, student ID card, or passport. You may also present a utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck, voter registration card, or another government document if the document displays your name and registration address.
Same-Day Registration During Early Voting Period
You may register and vote on the same day during the early voting period. To register and vote on the same day, you must provide proof of your identity and proof of residency.
- Proof of your identity. If you do not have a North Carolina driver’s license, you may use any valid photo ID, like a passport, student ID, or out-of-state license.
- Proof of your residency. If your photo ID does not contain your registration address, you may use another document to prove where you live if it contains your name and current address. This includes a utility bill, a lease, or document from your college listing your residential address.
This is only applicable to voters registered in North Carolina. If you plan to vote in a different state, scroll down to check your state’s voter ID requirements.
