Do I need voter ID?
First-time voters in New York do not typically need to show ID to vote. The voter registration form asks for either your DMV number or the last four digits of your social security number. This information is used to verify your identity. If you do not know this information or the Board of Elections is unable to verify your identity before Election Day, you may be asked to show ID the first time you vote.
This is only applicable to voters registered in New York. If you plan to vote in a different state, scroll down to check your state’s voter ID requirements.
